Things to come

I know, I know...I've been ignoring this blog for sooooo long I bet you thought I forgot about it. Well you'd be right, because I totally did! But don't worry, I'm full of things to write about and I think you'll like what I have lined up. I've amassed a large collection of comic books lately, so if that's your thing keep your eyes open for reviews of what I'm reading and things I'm excited for in the comic book world. Are crafts more your thing? Then you my friend are in luck! I have several geek related crafts that I'll be doing over the next few months, so check back for pictures and instructions. Are you bothered by sexism, racism, and other not ok things in the world of gaming? I'd like to address them here and hopefully get some constructive dialog going on. So lots of exciting things coming to this blog starting in 2014, so bear with me as I work all of the kinks out and get back into the swing of blogging full time.

Female Playable Characters

Often when I pick up a game to play the playable character is a male. Hell half the time there isn't a girl in the whole game at all, and if she is a girl she needs to be rescued. Look at Princess Peach from the Mario franchise, or the chick from A Bards Tale. There are very few games out there with a female lead. I bet off the top of your head the only ones you can name are Tomb Raider and the Metroid games.

Doesn't it seem strange to you that game developers are leaving out half of their players? How is that good for business? Sorry ladies, we don't want your cootie coated money. Are men really that sensitive that they can't handle women enjoying and playing games too? The whole thing just reaks of sexism and gate keeping if you ask me. We need to really evaluate how we treat both genders when it comes to games.

Greetings!

Being a girl on the internet isn't always an easy thing. Being a geek girl on the internet can be hard in the best of circumstances and out right dangerous in the worst. Things aren't always easier in the real world either, so I've decided to start a blog to post my thoughts on being a girl, a geek, and an athlete. Think of this as a feminist geek blog with random bits of sports thrown in for good measure. I'd like this to be a safe place for people to discuss different things, so please try and play nice'with each other. As of right now this blog will be updated on Mondays only, though that will eventually change in the future. That's all for now, see you next Monday!
